At Your First Visit

  • →What are my treatment options, and what do you recommend?
  • →What would happen if I don't treat this?
  • →Are there any lifestyle changes that could help?
  • →What symptoms should I watch for that mean I need to come back sooner?
  • →Is there anything in writing about this condition I can take home?

About Medications

  • →What is this medication for, and how does it work?
  • →What are the side effects I should know about?
  • →When should I take it, and with or without food?
  • →Are there any medications, foods, or supplements I should avoid?
  • →How long will I need to take this?
  • →Do you have a pharmacy here? Is there a generic available?

About Referrals & Specialists

  • →Why are you referring me to a specialist?
  • →How do I make the appointment — will your office do that, or do I call?
  • →How long is the typical wait?
  • →Does this specialist accept Medicaid / my insurance?
  • →What should I bring to the specialist appointment?
  • →Will you get the results, or do I need to follow up with you after?

About Cost & Coverage

  • →What will today's visit cost me?
  • →If I need lab work or imaging, how much will that cost?
  • →Is there a pharmacy assistance program for this medication?
  • →Can I get help enrolling in Medicaid or a health plan?
  • →What if I can't afford the fee today?

Having a family member or friend present can help you remember information and feel more comfortable asking questions. Let the clinic know you\'re bringing someone when you check in.
