Observing a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomist Technician not wash her hands, then proceed to pick a pair of gloves up off of a desk with an exam room paperwork (a fact she herself pointed out) under the gloves beside a keypad, requiring me to matter of factly ask her to wash her hands to prevent contaminating the outside of the gloves. She removed the gloves and washed her hands proceeding to tell me I have germs too, then placing another potentially contaminated pair of gloves on, also on the desk not in the box, refused to obtain the sample. The second pair of gloves had for some reason been placed on a potentially unsanitary surface also in the same area no longer in the box, before entering indicating perhaps an unsafe routine. The nursing supervisor refused also to obtain the sample without attempt to do so, informing through an ultrasound technician I could go anywhere else to have the lab work despite me not the problem and informing during the incident I was protecting my own health, responded to the employee was protecting her own self as well. Given the irrelevance, it was pointed out she was only requested to wash hands and obtain a sanitary pair of gloves. No correspondence occurred with the nurse supervisor. Routinely basic infection control can be observed not followed here. Speaking up results in refusal and or unprofessionalism. Otherwise, many of the employees are well received and pleasant to interact with including the Phlebotomist or Phlebotomist Technician who is quick, and appears to complete the puncture process nicely. The administrative worker was professional, not immature or passive aggressive. Reportedly over 7 million have died regarding COVID-19 and variants. One ER visit from the flu can set a patient back for a portion of the year regarding income. Routine cross-contamination incidents have occurred with a high probability some have been infected here. The Administrator could not be located to report what actually occurred. The nursing supervisor upheld the employee, which is a detriment to the employee and patients. However there is no authority to hold any to a standard, and many times those not doing the right thing proceed without correction. This is a higher risk healthcare facility although there are some positive interaction experiences. Patients may be disregarded or treated as overly-sensitive if they do not insist. Patients must request employees follow proper protocol or risk becoming infected. Basic infection control is not adhered to. The ultrasound department however has twice resulted positively. Also, private information is heard throughout the waiting area including reasoning for an appointment at times. The administration are above average in receptiveness to requests to write down information and respect privacy despite the set-up not right for HIPAA compliance.
My father was having a Alergic reaction to poison sumac, drove 5 hours for a shot. Called them in advance. Got there 15 mins before 5pm and they couldn't see me. They are my primary doctor.
I don't recommend this clinic! I went to them with a red, swollen, and very sore leg with a large lump. I was treated with antibiotics and told to come back if it wasn't getting better. I went back and saw a different NP who said I couldn't have an ultrasound to rule out a blood clot that day. Waited 2 days to get one. Then no one called me with results. I called twice and they'd say someone will call me but they didn't. Finally got a call after ONE WEEK beause I called and asked about the results again. No bloodclot and I was asked if I was better. I told them still swellling and broke out everywhere which I wondered if it was the antibiotic.she said go to my primary care dr. I thought that is what they are?!?! Why not tell me to come back in? Also was supposed to call me about a question I had about the aspirin I'm supposed to take for vein insufficiency! Waited over a week and no one ever did call. I feel they didn't care!
Bland County Medical Clinic has a professional and caring team. Dr. Crews is a awesome medical director. The clinic seems to run smoothly. It is always clean. The staff takes the time to listen to the patient. They don't seem to be hurried to "move on to the next case." Med Assistance Program kind courteous coordinates the paperwork between patient and pharma companies to help patients receive some medications at no or low reduced cost. Very much appreciate their work! Krista and Gabby are super kind people!
I was a patient at Bland medical clinic for 8 years. My provider & all staff were the best! Highly skilled, great care, friendly & caring, & the facility was always neat, clean, well cared for, & had the latest in medical equipment. Enjoyed the staff & care I received as a p.o patient there. All test results were given to me by phone & a hard copy mailed to me within a very few days. I also had access to all results via a patient portal on my computer/tablet/smart phone as well.
