This review is only for Labor and Delivery, OB and Neonatal ICU. I have no experience with other departments, and I do not know the costs of care yet. The labor and delivery unit has excellent service with very good nurses and doctors. They are compassionate and responsive to questions and requests. They seem very professional and very knowledgeable. My wife and I are very happy here. This hospital was recommended by our OB as the best place to go from preterm baby delivery and support. He was right.
ER was nasty back in the 1990's . ER was and is nasty now. It's the only place where you stay in ER forever. Tomorrow makes 4 days. The IV was the worst, and I have had many. I don't think I seen the same doctor twice. A few of the nurses were "ok" in my opinion one of the techs I had was one of the few that seemed to care. Health care needs help. This is the place that would work with my insurance. Yes it is close to North Georgia. I fell next time I will try Dalton or Atlanta. It may be a 2 hour drive but that would be quicker than the 6 hour wait. They are proud of their Dr's and fancy technology but need to hire a cleaning staff and maintenance folks. Two of the ER bays had to be closed due to bed bugs. I only gave them 1 star because I had to mark something and that's the lowest. If I get out of here alive I'll not return. You can rest assured I'm not afraid to tell anyone that will listen. This sounds like a rant and it is. It's after 2am it's so hot I can't sleep. Now was a good time as any so here it is
doctors at Erlanger Hospital are excellent, and this review is not a reflection of their care or competence. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the overall experience, communication, and compassion shown to families during critical and end-of-life situations. My family has had to deal with this hospital on multiple occasions with different relatives, including situations where loved ones have passed away. Each time, there has been a consistent lack of communication and empathy. Most recently, we were told by nursing staff that we could come anytime to see a family member who is actively dying. We drove over two hours, only to arrive and be told we could not see him for another three and a half hours. We were unable to get ahold of the nurse after arriving. The front desk staff member was rude, dismissive, and made us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than a grieving family asking for help. When she did call the nurse, it was done in a way that made us sound like the problem, after which we were essentially pushed aside. Every interaction with nursing staff during this stay has felt the same……..defensive, dismissive, and lacking compassion. I understand hospitals are busy and stressful environments, but there is a profound difference between being overwhelmed and being unkind. When families are losing someone, compassion, clear communication, and basic humanity should be the standard. Sadly, that has not been our experience here. One individual nurse made this experience doable and that was Ms. Somer. And I appreciate her kindness and supportive personality throughout this time.
If I could give this place a negative thousand stars I would. This place is a joke for a level 1 trauma center. My husband laid in the er for over 24 hours so far. They haven't started his tube feds, when I said something oh well you can bring him food in he will eat. Umm no you can start his tubefed. Its in his medical chart. Plus they have him on the wrong blood thinners. We will never use erlanger again, its the biggest pos hospital. Good thing I stay with him during meal times bc they sure dont check on him to see if he has eaten. He is a bedbound stroke patient and not a single person in the er checked to see if he needed help eating. They probably dont even check on him when I go home to sleep.
I went in for a D&C anesthetic procedure due to a missed miscarriage. The intake nurse was wonderful (her name was Sheila) as well as all the other nurse staff, anesthesia doctors, and OR doctors. Going into something like this you have so many emotions about what you're experiencing and then the procedure yourself. Everyone was so calm, respectful, supportive, and prompt. They all had wonderful bedside manner and really put my nerves at ease. The doctor did an amazing job with the procedure and I've had very little pain the following day. Thank you, all Erlanger staff.
