I wish I could rank these separately. I’ve seen Chuck Harris for years and he is more kind, empathetic, understanding, and supportive than any practitioner I’ve ever seen. He has given us many options for care that meet our family where we are and has been a constant source of support for half a decade. I cannot recommend him enough. I’ve seen Katie Langley for years as well. She is intelligent, insightful, and has supported me through many transitions and difficult times. Her office has been one of my fiercest advocates to date. I adore my providers at HCCH. My children were supposed to work with Sammi Silar under Dr. Austin Combs. We have struggled with school avoidance and refusal since Hurricane Helene (we were in the flood water up to our waists in our car, they’ve had a hard time thinking about it) and their father having two below knee amputations 4 years apart and the subsequent hospital admissions following that. After months of attempting to access school based therapy I was told today that they do not meet the attendance requirement of HCCH to work with them and that ‘trauma should not be dealt with at school’. I’m absolutely disgusted with the projection of responsibility to children who are seeing better tools to cope with the world around them. HCCH provides wonderful care for adults - the school based services they provide neglect the students who need them most based on arbitrary metrics ‘we have to be stingy with those spots’. Stingy, with therapy for my children. This is why parents get frustrated and feel defeated and unseen. Dr Combs I hope my children’s wellbeing is worth the miserly efforts in your scheduling. Watauga County Schools need a better provider that doesn’t rely on discriminatory metrics for students and parents with disabilities.
The staff were polite, respectful, and really made me feel comfortable. I have been seeking medical attention for some concerns I have had, Dr. Harris was the first to make me feel heard.
I just want to take a moment to share how truly thankful I am for the care my children and I received at High Country Community Health in Boone. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and cared for. My daughter, who is 15 months old, and my son, who is 5, were treated with so much compassion, patience, and love. Our nurse was absolutely incredible she went above and beyond to make sure my kids felt safe and comfortable the entire time. She showed such kindness not only to them, but also to me as a mom, which meant the world. It’s not always easy taking little ones to appointments, but she made the experience smooth, calm, and even uplifting. I also want to give a special thank you to Nurse Practitioner Theresa Gibbs and to Abigail Hicks. Both of them have been wonderful every time we’ve come in. They take the time to listen, explain things thoroughly, and never make us feel rushed. Their dedication and kindness truly stand out, and it gives me so much peace of mind knowing my children are in such good hands. Because of the incredible care we’ve received, I’ll continue bringing my kids to pediatrics in Boone. It’s rare to find a team that not only provides excellent medical care, but also shows genuine compassion and understanding at every visit. Thank you, Theresa and Abigail, and the entire team at High Country Community Health, for making such a difference for my family we appreciate you more than words can say!
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to Abigail for the exceptional care she gave to my daughter. From the moment we arrived, she established a kind, trusting, and compassionate relationship that made all the difference during a stressful and emotional time. She not only cared for my daughter’s physical well-being, but also took the time to connect with her on a personal level. She explained every step of the process in a calm, patient, and reassuring way not just to me, but directly to my daughter, which made her feel seen, safe, and empowered. As a parent, it’s incredibly comforting to know that your child is in the hands of someone who truly cares. Abigail went above and beyond, and we are so thankful for her professionalism, warmth, and heart. She made a lasting impact on our family, and we’ll never forget the care she provided. Thank you, Abigail from the bottom of our hearts.
I went there for a check up on my medicine and blood work, and the doctor in training was excellent but the doctor she was working under not only called in my prescription for insulin without any needles even though I called them and reminded them, But then when they got my blood work back, nobody contacted me so I called and And of course nobody called me back so I had to call again and then the lady that’s telling me about my terrible blood work is so rude. I couldn’t believe it. She’s giving me all this bad news and yet she has no compassion for me. I canceled my follow up appointments I would not bother going there. Believe me, you can do better anywhere else.
