I love the doctors and the staff here. They're always so helpful. And you can always get in with the same day sick appointment. It's awesome and they have their own pharmacy.
First of all, I would like to thank Cindy/ Dental Manager for getting me my dental care before my scheduled date (3/3) Secondly, I had a swollen jaw and she had enough empathy knowing no one would have wanted to go the whole weekend in pain; lastly. thank you for putting the patient first as well.
I recently visited Western North Carolina Community Health Services and, unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. One of the biggest issues I noticed was the high staff turnover—there always seem to be new faces, which makes it hard to build any real patient-provider relationship. It also gives the impression that the organization doesn’t care much about its staff or the patients who rely on continuity of care. Security believes they are US marshals and will throw you out for any reason. As a guardian of a patient, I felt that my specific health concerns were not taken seriously. The staff didn’t seem interested in understanding the occupational risks that come with my profession. During my appointment, the basics of a medical visit were rushed or skipped entirely—vitals weren’t checked, and none of my concerns were thoroughly addressed. Instead, I felt dismissed and unheard, which is incredibly frustrating. Overall, I would not recommend Western North Carolina Community Health Services. In my experience, it’s one of the worst places to see a doctor if you’re looking for attentive, personalized care. My concerns were ignored, and I left feeling like just another number.
I am literally floored at our experience. My mother has been a client here for years, and what happened this month is beyond unacceptable. We submitted a refill request on December 9th. When we went to pick up her medications today, the pharmacy staff claimed they had no record of it. Yet when we got home and checked the app, the refill request was sitting right there in black and white. This is the only pharmacy where my mother has ever had to split her doses. She lives with a terminal disease. She should never have to ration life‑saving medication just to survive until the next refill. MY MOTHER SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TO SPLIT HER BIKTARVY. Her medications cost between three and five thousand dollars a month. The Ryan White Fund is the only reason she is alive today. And yet, for the fifth month in a row, I have counted her splitting doses to avoid running out. That is not care. That is negligence. We tried to switch to another pharmacy, but Western North Carolina Community Health Services is the sole provider of the Ryan White Fund in this region. That means we are stuck here, forced to rely on a system that repeatedly fails to deliver. Things were better when Polly Ross was on staff. She could move mountains and get things done. Now, the level of service has dropped so low that we are considering going back to the “old way” — driving four hours one way to UNC Chapel Hill every month. I thought those days were behind us. I thought we could finally feel at ease. Clearly, we cannot. Yes, they tried to call back and fix it, but it was too late. We now have to make an extra, unplanned, unbudgeted trip back into town to pick up medications that should have been ready. And despite the fact that this mistake was entirely theirs, they didn’t even offer to deliver the medication at no charge. This is not just an inconvenience. This is a matter of life and death. Every missed refill, every split dose, every delay puts my mother’s health at risk. Patients who depend on Ryan White funding deserve better. They deserve consistency, accountability, and respect. We are done. No more of my mother having to split her doses. No more excuses. If Western North Carolina Community Health Services wants to call itself a provider, then it needs to act like one — because right now, it is failing the very people it is supposed to protect. --- This version adds: - Accountability language (“this is negligence,” “life and death”). - Emphasis on patient safety and the Ryan White Fund’s role. - Professional but forceful tone that makes clear you’re angry but credible. - Closing punch that leaves no doubt about your stance. I don’t know if this is the right place to leave a review for WNCCHS Dental, but hopefully it is! I haven’t been to the dentist in over 10 years. After months of calling and visiting in person, I was able to get on the dental waiting list. About a month later I got a call and was able to make an appointment. I was nervous because it’s been awhile since I saw a dentist. I’ve been a patient at Wncchs since 2013 and have had all kinds of conversations in the waiting room. I have witnessed the difficult situations the front desk staff are often put in by confused or frustrated patients and staff. I have a lot of respect for them. Even more so after today. I had a stressful experience in the waiting room and almost left before my appointment, but Maria and Gemina showed so much empathy and kindness while I was seriously triggered and crying that I felt safe staying. and gave me tissues while doing my X-rays and we talked about our pets. Dr. Shelley was so thorough in her exam and clear about what she saw that needed work. She even walked me back to the front desk because I was still kinda of emotionally wobbly. The last shoutout I have goes to Gabby, who holds together such an important part of the team: the front desk of dental. It’s impossible to avoid stressful interactions in life, but if it weren’t for them I’d have left and never got the tooth I need pulled out. 10/10 thank you Erin Taylor
