The dental team is amazing. Dawn did an amazing job going over what my options for insurance and out of pocket would be. Scheduling an appointment was easy, and the hygienists and Dr Rauf were friendly and great. Great overall experience.
They take grant money & donations and claim to support the community but for the people who need it the most they utterly fail. .... And they still charge them money.... * No free option for unemployed & uninsured. * Requires unreasonable time for poor people to get there for new patient walkins. * Insists they can't do evaluation and treatment of emergency condition on same day, failing the people who need a community clinic the most. * 2 separate appointments with separate fees to take advantage of uninsured unemployed people. * Their practices are not acceptable for A Federally Qualified Health Centers, and a registered "non-profit", and organisation taking federal & state grants, private donations, and an annual revenue of 22 million US Dollars.... And annual black tie Gala. * They need to be audited and a change in leadership or flat out de-funded. Here was my experience: I am unemployed and have no health insurance, and am in serious pain with symptoms of a tooth infection, so I Google searched for free or sliding scale dental clinics and this place came up, I called them and told them my situation, not only do they not have a free option for the unemployed and uninsured, ( which I could understand but the way they operate completely fails the people who need this most. They require walk ins for new patients to be at 7:30 am, and they charge around $50(or 40 but same price bracket) for that evaluation, I asked if they can remove the tooth if it is infected but they said they "can't" do it on the same day, and I "might need someone to cancel or no show", They also charge another approximately $50 for a tooth extraction. It's gets even worse... They even said they "can't guarantee treatment". So they expect you to go all the way there for possibly nothing. No way. As a former EMT and I know that an infected tooth is a serious medical condition and can develop into a very serious emergency.. If they do an evaluation and determine a patient has an infected tooth and is unemployed with no car they are in gross negligence to not remove it same day same appointment. Unemployed people cannot just go across town multiple days, and often cannot afford even $100. I can but there is no way I'm giving some of the last money I have left to a place with such offensive practices. These are absolutely unacceptable medical practices. This is absolutely unacceptable for a place taking federal and state money from the taxes of US citizens as well as private donations from galas and other grant money. Americans are fed up with scammers taking advantage of us. This is the era of de-funding legal scams..... Your Gala attendees would be appaualed at the misuse of their donations if they saw your plentiful bad reviews. Dare to believe it.
I love Charles Drew it’s amazing place to take your kids to get checked up all my kids go there to get regular well check the stuff are amazing once your child is seen by the doctor you can choose to pick up your kid’s medicine there as well they also have dental clinic too all in one building make your life super easy 🥰
This place is a joke. They tried so hard to get me to bring my four year old there for dental work. “My boss wants to see him asap since he’s in pain. We can get him in immediately” I take him to the appointment just to be told he needs to be referred to a pediatric dentist OR wait till feburary to have a tooth that needs pulled pulled. He already has an appointment with a pediatric dentist that’s a month away. I Told them that when I was making the appointment I was trying to get him help sooner. Just to take a night off of work and have my baby leave still with the tooth and “meds for pain”. But I bet you they’ll be more than happy to charge his insurance for the exam. We WONT be back and I’ll be making sure people know this is how this dentist practices
I saw Marc Darby (not sure his credentials) and he was really great. I haven’t always had wonderful experiences with mental health providers but he makes you feel comfortable and explains everything he’s thinking and I felt like he truly cared about my well being- that is rare. The receptionist was also wonderful, she was so kind and helpful with my confusing insurance plus she found a woman who helped me navigate that. I’ve never experience all around such great care from each person I worked with. The pharmacy had a few issues so it was a wait but they explained why and it worked out.
