I’ve received services from GHS for years. The staff hate their job and do not act like they enjoy helping people. They have continued to treat me and others unprofessionally, however, unfortunately for many, GHS is the only option due to insurance reasons. If the staff are not getting paid enough to give adequate care to patients and customers, that should be taken up with Genesee County, not me. I apologize to those that have no other choice than GHS and hope you are blessed with the kinder staff, because they do exist, however most of the staff have a very dismissive, condescending, and patronizing attitude, that has not been appreciated for many years. Human to humans, get it together.
I’ve been going to GHS off and on since I was a child back then it was called CMH I showed up on there door step begging them for help 15 yrs ago they help me in ways no one could now my son is going there wasn’t for sure if I did the right thing when he lost himself now that I see that what I did for him lead him to GHS I know I did my son is in very good hands couldn’t ask for a better place to help him then GHS thank you for everything you’ve done for me
I have a been with a person that had receive care from this place and it seem like they are not very good in keeping in contact with that person to make sure they are okay. This is really bad for the person that has a need of mental health care and need to be checked on often.
I have had to be involved in so many departments for mental health court. From the front desk and security, DBT, case management, I have worked with realistically some of the best staff members I have ever encountered throughout my life. I'm most grateful for every single one of them especially my case manager Jared and my DBT therapist Amber! Life changers no question to it! The entire place is a light. When I seen the rating I was wholeheartedly so surprised. There is no way the staff members alone get a solid 5 star rating! This facility will be a blessing for your life.
The CEO is named Dan Russel. With all this CCBHC grant money to improve the services yet services in our county are terrible. Is that money going in your pocket Dan? Here is our story: I am righting this grievance in regards to my husband. He was closed to crisis intervention services in late April after they provided services post mental health crisis in which he was treated for psychosis symptoms at Hurley hospital April 9th in the E.R. and released. His symptoms of mania and psychosis presented again and gradually worsened from April 28th until Sunday May 4th. We were told explicitly by the crisis team “not to call 911 but to call them first during their services”. On May 4th I called the Crisis Mobile Unit at 6:58 p.m. and two workers (one by the name of Toni Cobbin) responded and completed a evaluation. They completed the evaluation and Justin in a manic/ psychosis state asked them to leave. I escorted them out and asked about treatment options and hospitalization. I was told by Toni that they could come back out if I needed them too, bring a mental health petition, and have EMS dispatched. On Monday May 5th I had Justin sent to Henry Ford in Grand Blanc for his symptoms. He walked away from the hospital, threw out his phone and wallet due to paranoia and delusions and walked to a local business we are familiar with and had them call me to come get him. I retrieved him, took him home, and called the Crisis Mobile Unit at 1:07 p.m. They had Toni call me back and I requested they come back out and bring a petition and have EMS dispatched again. I explained the events of they day and that I was anticipating my young children (under the ages of 10) to arrive home from the school bus. Toni refused services stating “Since Justin declined our services we wont be coming back out”. I pleaded with her for help at which point she said she could “come back out to stabilize the situation” which I answered “yes please come and bring a petition”. She declined and again reiterated Justin refused the service the night before. She then told me I could take him to the behavioral health urgent care or I could go to probate court to get the petition. He was clearly not in his right state of mind, unable to care for his basic needs, and a danger to himself due to symptoms. He never refused their service; he only asked them to leave on Sunday May 4th during a episode of manic psychosis. Leaving him alone to go to probate court would heighten the risk as he was a risk to himself due to his hallucinations and delusions and would risk the safety of my children. We ended the call after she refused services and left me with unhelpful and unfeasible options. At this time I was able to involve a family member. EMS was called and the family member escorted the ambulance so I could stay with my children. The family member signed the petition which was provided by Hurley Hospital. If I had not had the support of family the situation would have escalated and likely resulted in injury and/or death due to the nature of manic psychosis. It is the designated task of a mental health mobile crisis unit to provide services to those who seek it and I was denied in trying to get care for my husband. He was mandated 7 nights psych inpatient to control symptoms after crisis stabilization refused services to us. They advertise like they are hero's don't let them fool you, they do more harm than good. There are too many people in need who don't have family members to help in this county for these services to be denied over arbitrary reasons. And it's not a rights violation because the mental health code only protects those who have Medicaid.
