Andrea Farmer has cared for me the past 6 years, and she's absolutely amazing! She is so caring and compassionate about helping me. I've been inpatient as well. The facility is clean, and the staff was wonderful. I highly recommend their services, especially after being inpatient at Neuro Behavioral Hospital in Crown Point. It was an absolute ghetto nightmare there, for lack of better words. If you or a loved one suffer with mental health issues, reach out to Porter Starke. Usually the first initial visit takes a bit to get in, but after that it's easy to make routine appointments.
We took my daughter for a risk assessment and I was pleasantly surprised by our experience (based off reputation and previous experience). Mario checked us in, was very welcoming and gentle, explained the process and really took the time my daughter deserved for someone to hear her. He explained things in an age appropriate way, gave strategies or idea of support, and walked us through what to expect. He asked my daughter questions that dug deeper in what she meant and didn't take her answer for surface value which I appreciated. He did not lead her, but asked her to explain and when she didn't understand, he explained in a different way. He was genuinely happy to be there, didn't miserable which made us comfortable to open up more. I cannot speak for anyone else, but Mario really did a great job!
Find myself wishing I had a ZERO star feature at this time. My daughter has been a patient here with Lisa Nichols for about 7 years. Not only are the front office women rude, confrontational, and just sheer mean they seems to be a bit negligent as well. I have lost count of how many times we call and we NEVER get an answer. This last time I mentioned it to staff and she got defensive and rude as all get out and told me that they do not answer or talk on the phone at any point when patients are at the window.....cue me arriving to appointment and standing there for 10+ minutes for one of the 3-4 women sitting there mean mugging you to finally call you to window to check in for an appointment all for them to say well we have to attend to phone calls. Sorry. ok. Now lets jump to back of the house. I asked the MEDICAL ASSISTANT 3 times to wait a moment because I was doing copay and had my MINOR daughters paperwork for her to fill in, so she huffs, rolls her eyes and takes my kid back anyway leaving me locked in the lobby.......WTH?! So then I go to window and I'm asked to please get in line and wait to be helped. So I did. 3 of the 4 women stared at me and continued conversing, not on the phone, not with patients, but with each other and laughing then when I was finally helped she got mad at me and said she had to find the clicker to open door and she would need to verify who I am and why I need to be present. We are med management. Yes me the consenting adult for my minor daughters treatment need to be present. Then after getting back and seeing Lisa, after she makes some changes and starts her on a whole new medication she tells us oh and when you check out please give them this paper for transfer of service because in 28 days she would no longer be working for them. Why would you not lead with that before starting a new medication. THEN, as if we aren't upset enough, as we are leaving her office she got a little too brazen with her "true" opinion. LITERALLY, for mental health go ANYWHERE else.
Psychiatrist Shawna Reed told my husband who has an extensive, well documented list of mental health struggles that she feels he is having “spiritual difficulties” and recommended he see a pastor. Also told him he was seeing things as “more problem based than solution based” but the only solution she could give him was to “make a plan” we’ve gone round and round with PSS but this was the last straw for my husband and myself. Thankfully we called around and were able to get him in today for a consult elsewhere. PSS is the worst. I would never recommend this place to anyone I actually care about. Update 10/25: I called the number listed in your response on 10/22 at 12:48PM just for entertainment because the last time I left a review I received the same generic response to call a number and discuss the issues. It is now 10/25 at 2:57PM and I still have not received a response. Shocker. And to further prove my review, I would like to direct attention to the notes given to my husband by this “psychiatrist.”
I love my doctor I see but the nurses that work for her a crap! For 2 months now I've been contacting them to get refills on medications I desperately need, they never call my meds in or call me back!!! MY depression is getting worse and the damn nurses don't g.a.s!!! Dont go there you'll never get better cuz they don't care!!!
