Completely unprofessional! My husband and I have been going around with the clinic for about a month trying to get a referral for my son to see a specialist. No one will return phone calls they claim to fax the referral and it doesn’t happen. I’ve requested it to be mailed to my home and no one will communicate. The lady that answers the phone for pediatrics Maria should be FIRED! She talks over me every time I have called. She is dishonest, she has hung up on me and she is extremely unprofessional and I will be going to HR about her. The person responsible for referrals doesn’t return phone calls. The amount of unnecessary stress my family has endured with western Sierra has been completely awful! I highly DO NOT recommended bringing your child to this place!

We’ve been seeing Dr. Joyce since both of my daughters were born, and we absolutely adore her — her care and compassion are unmatched. Unfortunately, since the merger with Western Sierra, the phone service has become quite challenging. Over the past few weeks, I’ve experienced hold times of 30 minutes or more on several occasions, and once had to wait four business days for a call back. I completely understand that large transitions like this take time to smooth out, but I hope these issues are resolved soon — especially when it comes to reaching someone about children’s health. I’m sharing this feedback not out of frustration, but in the hope it helps improve the experience for families who rely on this wonderful team. We truly value Dr. Joyce and her staff, and I’m looking forward to seeing things get back to the high standard of care we’ve always known. 12/2025 Edit - I am increasing my star rating and editing my review. It appears the call issues were primarily related to the merger. In the last 3 calls I've made, the wait times have been MUCH MORE reasonable at approx 5-10 monutes. Would recommend Dr. Joyce to any other parents looking for a wonderful pediatrician!

This place is decent at the least. They use to be called "Miner's Family Health Center". They were really good back in the day and had a lot of good doctor's with kind staff and a child friendly atmosphere. When they moved and became Western Sierra, they got busier and things got really chaotic. I would recommend one of my many past doctors here, but they've all retired. Beware the dentists though. I don't know who's working there now but there was a kind personal female dentist and then there's this really stern male dentist who would try to inflict pain on you on purpose just to laugh in your face about it and throw a power trip if he didn't like you for some petty reason. He didn't even bother acting like it wasn't on purpose. He would be like "haha I can poke and prod you all I want, just like this (as he does it on purpose again) and if you don't like it you can wait for another appointment". I don't remember his name. Everyone knew who he was though because he did it all the time and it was the word on the street at one point. Most the other people working there are good to their patients though. Just don't be afraid to schedule with someone else if you end up with someone who's rude.

I had the best care ever today, my nurse practitioner (I think her name was Ki or Gi) was super sweet and patient. I felt heard, taken care of and prioritized. They got me in and out of there; everyone from the front desk, to the nurse’s assistant and my nurse were outstanding. I didn’t feel judged or looked down on, thank you for treating your patients with respect and a smile.

This place is an absolute joke. Embarrassing to the medical community. I truly don’t understand how this place is still open? Is there no standard of medical care and practices? Aside from the doctors there having no clue what their doing, the organization in front and back office is nonexistent! I was honestly waiting for a camera crew to pop out an announce it was all some type of prank. The doctors, medical assistants and receptionist at work here should all be very embarrassed and ashamed of themselves and I also think that they should take sometime to think about their career choice, lack of passion, professionalism, ethics and effort being put into their jobs because lives are at stake and I don’t think any of them belong in the position to make decisions about patients medical care. It’s scary truly that places like this are even operating. I just moved here from the Bay Area and wasn’t expecting the level of excellence in healthcare that I received there, here but I was expecting to be horrified by the lack of even having minimal standards in healthcare. I’m very nervous about having to see another doctor in this area when my future and life are at stake with my conditions. I sincerely hope this is a one-off fluke practice because wow. I would not recommend anyone coming here. Especially with any type of serious injury or illness. Do not trust these people with your healthcare , please try anywhere else first.
